There was serious competition for the stupidest thing ever done even back then. "It was the stupidest thing this country ever did. He was no more a Communist than I was, and we forced him to go."
But it was actually a very good decision in that he did what I had advocated BP Oil International do 33 years ago which was to establish education and R & D in China where hordes of young superbrain women in particular had no economic pathway to glory.

John Stuart Mill liked the idea of maximizing goodness in general. I'm inclined to that idea too.

Is it better to climb out on the leading edge and go for glory oneself or turn back and spend time bringing the next group of stormtroopers to the leading edge? It's a matter of age. When young go all out. When older help the younger, while keeping one's hand in.

Irwin Jacobs for example came out of retirement just for fun and started Qualcomm. Young Rich Kerr went full stormtrooper on designing the first CDMA chips. Young Bill Gardner joined him. So did hordes of others. The rest is history.

But in January Judge Lucy Koh had Irwin Jacobs in front of her. Not only did she not stand and bow but she denigrated him. Talking too fast was one criticism being proof he is a practised narrative liar. She has no idea what an ignorant arrogant stupid feminist fool she is. I think it's something to do with Korean/Mainlander totalitarian mindset. She will be reversed. I guess she has Trump Derangement Syndrome and owns an iPhone. Votes Obama who appointed her.

Sending him back to China I guess helped levitate a billion people.

But I have enough experience of Mainlanders to know they are a pack of thieving crooks. So no doubt plenty of the STEM people will steal and sell. Growing up in a dog eat dog and human eat dog world leaves one short in Virtuous Victorian Values.

Totalitarian collectivist authoritarianism can get some things done. But it's a highly circumscribed success.

Similarly with stealing stuff. Lucy wants to steal stuff from Qualcomm aka me, and give it to Huawei. No thanks.

Trump had better trump her. The appeals court and Supreme Court might get a piece of the action.
