Sonny:

Thanks for the post. Today will be a big one for earnings. I suspect MSFT will be ok, as will CPQ. I am uncertain about TXN, but if I remember its expectations were lowered a while ago and it may make its numbers. What I find interesting in all of this is the wild swing in market sentiment from doom and glum to unbridled enthusiasm. I do not believe that there is great clarity about the Asian situation. I suspect that those who say it will be an isolated event are wrong as it may affect both Europe and us. To what degree however is the question. The one very bright spot in all of this is that the multinational banks seem to be working together to help solve this issue financially speaking. I imagine that their main focus is on the shorter term liquidity problem - BWDIK. So I suspect that it will work itself out and have a lesser effect than some imagine. IBM CC said the crisis would be solved (or some such) by the second quarter. That I think is a bit optimistic. Perhaps by the third quarter and certainly by the end of the year, would be my guess. The dange done to the consuming public in Asia may last longer.
