I think we're talking about two different things, the word "internet" and what the Internet became, the "information highway."

As everyone knows then Sen. Gore pushed for the Internet to be made public. Previously it was used by scientists to exchange information privately. This was a completely new concept for its use and it was something he and Clinton pushed in their campaign.

Since what I know is history I have to read it so from what I read he talked about a "new economy" and that included this new thing later called the Internet. Clinton pushed for private industry and government to work together to create this new technology. I can't imagine a republican being smart enough to do something like this.

It was the Internet that gave us our tech lead over the world so it's good we had people in power who could think about the future instead of petty bickering about bjs and Whitewater.
