Speaking of the sector, did ya'll see the news about ADSL (CEO of Lucent is on CNBC talking about it ask I write). Compaq, Intel & Microsoft joining forces with most of the Baby Bells. Bellsouth has trial service going in Birmingham and will introduce it in larger cities in the region after the trial. Modems should be available by Christmas for $300-500 initially (then falling as usual). Bellsouth is charging residential customers $20/mo (but nothing for the modem or installation) on top of regular ISP and copper charges.

I guess the question for ISPs is whether they will be able to utilize the local telco's ADSL capacity and whether the telco's will be able to offer a cheaper package deal than the ISPs could.

Looks like investors in MSPG and ELNK aren't worried about it though (or are clueless in general?lol). A MSPG exec, BTW, played down the ADSL threat in the Atlanta paper saying "standards may remain elusive" and "the expense of [ADSL] is likely to keep it limited to businesses". Nothing like vague reassurances to keep a stock flying high, huh?

Thoughts anyone?

Bob (hey, a whole post on-T!)
