Everyone is going to have to pitch in , poor or no. 60% of the problem is from outside the USA. We are definitely energy pigs... trying to do my part to fix that but what has to happen is fusion. We could see obsolescence of petroleum as a primary fuel in a couple decades with any luck. These CO2 to fuel schemes can help but coal burning is 4x dirtier than any other fuel. Carbon - Oxygen bond is about the same as the hydrogen-oxygen bonds when combusted so simply moving to fuels with higher H-ratios gets us on our way.
