TUCSON — Mexican authorities once again arrested a Phoenix-based migrant rights activist on Wednesday along the Arizona-Mexico border, according to his family and migrant rights groups.
Officers arrested Irineo Mujica on Wednesday afternoon in the border city of Sonoyta, located across from Lukeville in southwestern Arizona. He helps run a migrant shelter in that city.
It's his second arrest in Mexico this year.
Mujica gained notoriety in 2018 as an organizer with Pueblos Sin Fronteras. The group helped several large caravans of mostly Central American migrants travel across Mexico to Tijuana. |
