Diamond Multimedia's Graphics and DVD Adapters Chosen by NEC Corporation for Several New Desktop Computer Systems and Servers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1998--Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:DIMD), a leader in Internet multimedia acceleration, announced today that its AGP-based Fire GL 1000 Pro and Viper V330 graphics accelerators as well as its PCI-based DVD adapter have been selected by NEC Corporation for several new desktop computer systems and servers for sale in Japan. The Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro accelerator has been chosen for NEC's Mate NX commercial desktop systems and Express5800 servers; the Viper V330 accelerator has been chosen for NEC's MateServer NX servers; and Diamond's DVD adapter has been selected for NEC's VALUESTAR NX personal desktop computers.

Viper V330

Diamond's Viper V330 graphics accelerator is a "true" 128-bit solution for accelerating mainstream 2D/3D graphics and MPEG-1 digital video playback. Powered by 4MB of SGRAM, Diamond's Viper is capable of displaying resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 and color depths up to 32-bit true-color. A 230MHz RAMDAC provides flicker-free refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The new Viper features optimized drivers for running in Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 environments with support planned for Windows 98.

Fire GL 1000 Pro

Designed for advanced 2D/3D performance for digital content creation, CAD/CAM, VRML and 3D multimedia presentations, the Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro accelerates 3D performance for all applications based on OpenGL, Direct3D and HEIDI application programming interfaces (APIs). Featuring 8MB of SGRAM, the Fire GL 1000 Pro is capable of processing up to one million texture mapped polygons per second and supports resolutions up to 1920x1200. Hardware 3D acceleration features include rasterization, texture mapping, double buffering, 16-bit Z-buffering and an integrated geometry set up engine.

DVD

Diamond's DVD adapter utilizes a C-Cube chipset with MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio decoders for the optimized playback of DVD content at up to 30 frames per second. Additional features include X and Y interpolation for improved image quality, composite video output, S-VHS output and TV output for viewing DVD titles on a TV screen.
