Mickie - It's not in Inc Online - I checked before I posted. The author gives an e-mail address of incberglas@aol.com and he works at Harvard Medical School.

I made a typo in the title -
"The ties that blind"
subtitle "For too many managers, it comes down to this:'Sure he's an SOB, but he's our SOB'" by Dr. Steven Berglas.

It was the subtitle that caught my eye - I have heard people in RI and CA say that about their CEO.

Besides 'under-the-counter money' and 'devotion to the Quadrax vision' as motives for staying on without pay, we should consider that the QDRX management team are caught in this psychological trap. Dr. Berglas says that he has come across very talented top drawer executive teams in this same situation.
