The current issue of Audio magazine has a long review of Philips DVX8000 multimedia system. The review says that the video is incredible, partly due to a line doubler that operates on video data while it is still in the digital domain (i.e., before it is converted to analog). The system also produces a progressive scan picture. The reviewer said that the line doubled progressive scan system works well with analog sources, but he didn't explain how (or whether) the analog video was converted to digital form in order for the line doubler to do its thing.

Unfortunately, there was no discussion of the MPEG2 decoder. He did say that the AC-3 audio output was good but not as good as his outboard decoder. This would be consistent with a Ziva implementation. However, this is just conjecture on my part. Philips/Magnavox does use Ziva in its DVD player.
