The bashing was a reference to lumping the US with the Brits and ‘becoming great on the back of others’.

Was trying to be specific that the greatness of the US is in its founding principles - the separation of powers, restraints on the government and the protection of individual rights. That’s the beauty of it - unique to this nation and yes everything else is ancillary - the land, wealth, resources ..all of it. It’s the people and their freedom ( from government tyranny) that’s the engine.

And the system worked like a charm in Nov ‘16 even if only 55.6 % voted - that percentage is a reflection of the freedom to not vote - it’s not mandatory like it’s in some countries. And the system worked even without the popular vote - Trump won the states by a 3:1 margin and the counties by a 6:1 margin.

Not so sure about China becoming a true democracy - even if it does the uniqueness of the American system that has worked successfully over 250 years was the point of the post. It’s poorly understood by many here.

Trump’s tweets are a media diversion for the most part. Betting that by time Nov 2020 rolls around he’ll persuade the electorate that the D party is totally lost in the leftist fringes. The coming landslide will be a stunner to even the most optimistic Republicans.
