From a moral perspective, the pro-life position is the ONLY acceptable viewpoint. The pro-choice position is just a concession to women who are saddled with the consequences of their choices.
The real point of contention between the two sides is the following question:
Where does life begin?
But the left doesn't want that question posed, because they know that the pro-life side has the stronger moral stance on that.
This is why they miscast this debate as an attack on a women's personal autonomy. Well yeah, if that's the ONLY life in question, then personal autonomy is a given.
But that is NOT the only life in question. The pro-life side sees abortion as a crime against the unborn who, lacking the power to defend themselves, relies upon society to defend them. In other words, there are TWO lives in this equation, not one.
This is why the left will resort to all sorts of lies, distractions, and logical fallacies, because they do NOT want people to think that there are indeed TWO lives at stake here.
Remember what I said before, "Assume the left lies, and you will be closer to the truth"? Take a look at the list of lies below:
1) "It's not a life, it's a fetus, an embryo, a clump of cells that have no more significance than the skin cells I just shaved off this morning."
2) "You're not pro-life, you're anti-abortion."
3) "Anti-abortionists only want to control what happens in the bedroom."
4) "Abortion is health care. You're denying health care to millions of women out there."
5) "You're being unfair to the woman, who is forced to carry her pregnancy to term while the man gets away with no consequences."
6) "You don't care about unborn children, because you oppose (insert socialist "for the kids" program of choice here)!"
7) "Why ban 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions? Only a small percentage of abortions are done in those stages!"
There are many other lies that the pro-choice crowd puts forth, but those are just off of the top of my head.
I challenge a pro-choice advocate to come up with a list of lies that the pro-life crowd comes up with. Given that the pro-choice position is the more popular one at the moment, there should be plenty of advocates, including on this thread, so I should get at least one who would take up my challenge.
