Presidential candidate Kamala Harris said Trump should be prosecuted, reiterating that he is not above the law.
Senator Kamala Harris, who launched her presidential campaign earlier this year, said that the Justice Department “would have no choice” but to prosecute President Trump for obstruction of justice if she is elected president, according to an article by Haaretz.
The junior senator from California said, “There has to be accountability. I mean look, people might, you know, question why I became a prosecutor. Well, I’ll tell you one of the reasons — I believe there should be accountability. Everyone should be held accountable, and the president is not above the law.”
At the state conference of the NAACP on Saturday night, Harris also stated, “And I’ve prosecuted a lot of cases. But rarely one with this much evidence.” Harris has pushed her experience as a former attorney general as what sets her apart from other democratic candidates when taking on President Trump in the next election.
The former prosecutor has been criticized as being too hard on the accused, but responded that “too many black and brown Americans are locked up” and she wants to change that.
Harris also directly addressed black voters saying, “Everyone wants the police to respond when their home gets burglarized. Everyone wants accountability when a woman is raped, when a child is molested, and when one human being kills another. What we do want is a justice system where no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.” |
