An accurate synopsis of the fact. But who cares?

Two times now in recent history, the popular vote winner did not win the electoral vote. Both times went to the Republicans, because the Republicans have their base of support spread out among almost all of the rural states.

Most of my friends live in "blue states." They think it's unfair that the "red states" get an advantage relative to their populations. But that's the same disadvantage that rural states had back when the Constitution was written, so the nation was formed as a republic of states rather than a unified central power. That was the way to convince the smaller states to join the union. And it's worked for the past 230 years.

There are populists of the left and of the right. Their arguments are usually not rational. I'm not one of those people. As I said, I don't care about the EC. Of course, I am trolling the Trump supporters by pointing out Trump wasn't as popular as they think in the last election. They think Trump won some masiive landslide election and is fated to do so again.

Some people, mostly on the left, think that the republic as it was formed back then is obsolete, and that we should move to a more centralized, populist form of government. The fact that you value the popular vote suggests that you agree with those people.

Am I right in assuming that, or are you just bringing up the popular vote to troll the Trump supporters?
