Proof that tariffs are not a tax on consumers

Tariffs are not hurting American consumers, but tariffs are laying waste to their intended target: Red China.

The elitists lectured us long and hard on how nobody wins a trade war.

The elitists also were alarmed about tariffs. For the first time in decades they were worried about the workingman paying "higher taxes" through tariffs. The same snobs who could not care less about the gutting of America's heartland by regulations, NAFTA and Red China, suddenly were concerned about the prices at Walmart.

But Red China has been winning the trade war for 30 years.

And now it is eating all of the tariffs and not passing along this cost to consumers. That indicates Red China has enjoyed a huge markup on prices.

Not only is Red China eating those 25% tariffs, but prices for imports overall have dropped.

Market Watch reported, "The cost of imports fell in May for the first time this year, reflecting a decline in the prices of most foreign-made goods including those coming from China that have been hit with U.S. tariffs.

"The import price index dropped 0.3% last month, the government said Thursday. Import prices fell by the same amount even if fuel is excluded.

"Import prices have dropped 1.5% in the past 12 months, matching January for the largest decline since the fall of 2016. By contrast, import prices were rising at a 4.5% annual clip a year earlier."

If Red China is willing to give us $200 billion a year by eating the tariffs, maybe we should make the tariffs permanent.

Or better yet, double the tariffs.

President Donald John Trump has exposed elitist economists for what their are: foreign trade whores.

The vast majority of economists support exporting American jobs to Red China while importing products from the communists. Cynically, they call it free trade. It is not because Red China's markets are not fully open to us.

Red China and its useful idiots in America believe they can wait out President Trump and replace him next year.

Don't let them.
