Net the entire tree IMO.. use zip ties if overlapping needed.. Melons are easier.. use a large clear (preferable) plastic bag... around each fruit.. Old Chinese lady trick :))

for the strawberries.. wire mesh.. the small wire cloth size in the building supplies.. Set it a few inches deep if you have smart rodents :)) I am doing that for a client next week.. I shortcutted two years ago and the chippies dug under..
