Dwight I think you have missed my point. In the future we will connect to the 'Net in many ways...satellite, cable, telco, wireless & what have you.

Where I live the CO is too far away and in poor condition for 56K and xDSL, but cable is right next door. I see being connected via cable at 1.5 meg before getting 56K via PAC BELL.

Now in town where both cable and phone lines are suitable to deliver xDSL I'm sure there will be competition in some areas.

Here in Calif. I've read where PAC BELL is attempting to run fiber to every connection. In the areas they succeed at doing that I think you are right and the obit should be drafted for the cable company's 'Net access.
