Infotech says 6.7mm PC-DVD's in 1998.
If you believe some of the old posts on this thread claiming how many Ziva's Creative has taken (200k?), then you would think that Creative has >50% market share in PC-DVD (infotech said 330k was the total for the 1997 PC-DVD market). Maybe then it's safe to say they have 25%?
Infotech says 6.7mm PC-DVD's in 1998, at 25% thats 1.7mm Ziva's to Creative alone this year. What about Diamondmm? What about Toshiba? What about NEC & PackardBell? What about Dell? What about...

InfoTech Reports Worldwide CD-ROM Installed Base Approaches 200 Million WOODSTOCK, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1998--Worldwide unit sales of CD-ROM readers increased 27% in 1997 to 74.1 million, according to a new InfoTech report, Optical Publishing Industry Assessment, Ninth Edition. The total worldwide installed base of CD-ROM drives on PCs and videogame consoles has now surpassed 195 million. In addition, an estimated 330,000 DVD-ROM drives were sold worldwide following the new format's introduction in late March.
With the price differential between DVD-ROM and CD-ROM readers steadily diminishing, OEM PC manufacturers are expected to offer DVD-ROM drives on an increasing number of models in the second half of 1998. DVD-ROM drive sales are projected to accelerate accordingly, reaching 6.7 million units in 1998 and 24.2 million in 1999.
DVD-ROM is expected to replace CD-ROM as standard equipment in all new PC and TV set-top system configurations thereafter, including sub-$1000 PCs and videogame consoles. By 2002, the installed base of DVD-ROM drives is projected to exceed 250 million worldwide, replacing CD-ROM as the dominant software and multimedia delivery platform.
At year-end 1997 total DVD-ROM titles in print worldwide numbered just 60 compared to nearly 46,000 CD-ROM titles in print. Based on InfoTech's annual survey of publishers, the catalog of DVD-ROM titles will remain limited until 4Q98, when the total is projected to reach 500 worldwide.
According to InfoTech Chairman and CEO Julie B. Schwerin, this situation provides a unique opportunity for prospective DVD-ROM publishers: ''With fewer DVD-ROM titles in print, the available revenue per title at a given price point and unit sales volume increases. DVD-ROM thus offers the interactive publishing industry a second chance to approach packaged multimedia more selectively, with the benefit of known adoption patterns, established distribution channels, and proven business models.''
