Each jet-powered RQ-4 Global Hawk costs about $30 million, while the R&D cost another $6 billion.

One jet engine on a commercial aircraft costs $12 million to $35 million, with a 737 costing $306 million. The surface-to-air missile needed to destroy the Malaysia Air Flight 17 killing all 285 on board cost a mere $250,000.

This propeller driven General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper costs $16 million with similar R&D costs.
