Had change of plans.. matriarch did not want hubby falling in the garden.. He only has a few plants so now they are airborne in hanging baskets..

but what I was planning on ..

simple box.. build to scale using 2x2s.. Use Hardware mesh homedepot.ca

Attach with staple gun.. I use a plain vanilla Arrow.. Have a fancier one that does brad nails too but it always jams.. It has dust on it now :)) T50 staples.. (3/8in should do.. or 1/2 in.. but that might be overkill..

For chippies and squirrels probably have the mesh go 3-4 in below the bottom of your enclosure.. and be sure to cut the mesh so you have spikies .. and even bend some out !!! (like so many nails) so just above a lateral.. Your soil should not be that hard so dig a quick little trench if you have to and back fill.. This worked or me at my home.. but presently not growing any strawberries at my plot and have no home anymore :(

iff it is voles.. (They never bothered my berries...) you need DEEPER.. 6-8in.. as they burrow along just sub surface... like mining field mice... but they only ruined my turnips and beets ... beautiful greens and hollowed out roots :(( never touched my berries. I'll hopefully doing a bigger one for voles next season.. but only so many projects in one summer/spring...
