Possibility —— Center-left takes the political stage in Canada

Liberal voters have been dismayed by the party's drop in popularity; largely the drop originates from the JWR affair. At the time, conservatives were elated. They exploded with optimism for a Conservative government in November.

However things are improving for the left. While NDP support is shaky, Greens are making gains related to growing concern about climate change. Polling now shows a slight upswing in Liberal support, while Conservative polling is going sideways. Moreover, Conservative voting is somewhat fragmented by the Bernier faction -- a negative, but not critical -- factor.

Wilson-Raybould and Philpott have sidelined themselves. While their motivation may have been laudable, most Canadians don't understand what drove them to torpedo -- but not sink -- the Liberal party. Even if re-elected they've become outsiders with little power, not influential insiders.

Meanwhile, Trudeau's conciliatory attitude is re-attracting former mavericks.

In contrast, this Green -- an environmentalist -- has understood the power equation correctly. He's moving to the Liberals.

'Mr. Guilbeault explained his decision to run for the Liberals by saying the election of a Conservative government would be a step backward for the environmental fight in Canada.

“I don’t see what the Green Party or the NDP can do to stop the election of a Conservative government,” he said.'

Here's a recent poll.

The numbers for a center-left coalition are persuasive. Liberals have always excelled in creating and working with such coalitions. Conservatives? Not.

Is this good?

IMO it's even better than a Liberal government. Badly-needed legislation on critical issues will be forced to swing even further left than Liberals dared to go.
