| | | There was much in the way of "BAD/FALSE/CONNIVED" Intelligence going the rounds prior to the Iraq War. Both the US President and the UK Prime Minister were "Convinced(?)" that Sadam had WMD's, even though certain other 3rd party sources said that they very much doubted that was the case. These sources were later proved correct.
You may recall that Colin Powell stated, quite emphatically, to the UN Security Council that Iraq had WMD's, and therefore a military attack was "Justified(?)". At that time, I very much doubt that someone like MacGregor was at a high enough level in the "system" to know anything different.
And apart from anything else, attacking a country such as Iraq is nowhere near as difficult or problematic or ultimately as expensive as attacking Iran.
The way I see it there have been occasions in past history, from about 1940 onward, where heads of countries, such as the USA or the UK, wanted to attack a 3rd party country, or get involved with a ongoing war, for their own UNJUSTIFIABLE reasons. BUT, in order to do that, some thing "Catastrophic" or of a "Major Threat" had to occur in order to persuade their fellow citizens that such a course of action was "JUSTIFIED", in order that they could then get the "Go Ahead" from a Congress or from a Parliament to do just that ......... |
