Digital Certificate Authentication System at Florida Department of State

TORONTO, Jan. 21 /CNW-PRN/ - Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ: DVNTF; CDN: DVNT) announced today that it has successfully completed a pilot project at the Florida Department of State that demonstrates the use of its digital certificates for authenticating the source, destination and integrity of electronic transactions.

The pilot project implemented software that uses Diversinet's digital certificates for assuring the authenticity of transacting parties and the integrity of the exchanged electronic information at the Florida Department of State. The system demonstrates how the company's digital certificates, based on public-key infrastructures, can be used to promote reliance on information exchanged between parties across open electronic networks, for a variety of applications.

The Florida Department of State, being at the forefront of digital signature and electronic transaction legislation in the United States, is using Diversinet's public-key infrastructure system to gain an intimate understanding of the various uses of digital certificate technology. This project serves to support current efforts in drafting regulations associated with recent digital signature legislation. ''It is hoped that demonstrations of this technology will enable policy makers to consider potential uses for the technology in Florida government,'' said Donald Bell, General Counsel of the Florida Department of State.

Nagy Moustafa, President of Diversinet Corp. said, ''We are delighted to contribute to the Florida government's progressive efforts to promote the safe use of public electronic networks, such as the Internet. This pilot project is a significant door-opener for Diversinet's other authentication/authorization products that can be used for many different kinds of security and digital signature applications in state government, ranging from electronic document notarization and filing to on-line electronic voting.''

Mr. Bell, who was a participant in the project, commented, ''I was surprised at how easy it is to use Diversinet's digital certificates. This demonstration has allowed us to understand exactly how digital certificates are used within a real application.''
