There was a program I saw several years ago (60 Minutes?) that said the animals in Chernobyl are evolving at an incredibly fast rate. Even though they look the same as what they were before the accident, at a genetic level they are very different.

I wonder what we will find out if we examine the dogs.

...and ya, it sucked that they didn't let people take their dogs.
