Urbanized coyotes are not shy. We have a large coyote population living right next to us (golf course). They even “accompanied” us on our dog walks in the golf course and always kept a distance of maybe 300 ft while shadowing us.

The fascinating part ... There seemed to be an understanding between our dogs and the coyotes as in “You don’t bother us and we won’t bother you”. Not one incident in 30 years plus.

That said, there are dumb dogs who chase coyotes. Their odds are generally not good especially if they are of the smaller variety.

An added benefit of living next to coyotes ... They tend to put on quite the concert usually just as it gets dark. It’s actually quite beautiful.
