This article overstates the importance of an x86 processor in building an exascale computer, not to mention interconnects, etc. I could Google it, but I'd guess 99% of the floating point power of such a computer would come from the GPUs. What it does do is limit sales of x86 processors into China, which hurts Intel with AMD making some small royalty off these sales. Anyway, this whole trade deal with China will hopefully prevent such tech transfers in the future, if they ever reach one.
