Did you notice AWRE? Aware is a maker of ADSL technology
for up to 8 Mb/s download speeds from the internet. They have
a patent on discrete multi-tone technology (DMT) which they have
licensed to some others.

AWRE jumped 3-4 points in the last two days over an unsubstantiated
report that MSFT, INTC, CPQ, GTE, & 4 of 5 baby bells will use DMT
ADSL in their new modem efforts. Products expected next xmas. The
kicker is that the report came from the NY Times, not just another
rumor. Announcement expected next week.

You have to be registered (free) to get the above link to work.

I have been following AWRE as a possible ADSL play. ADSL has
always been the technology of next year, not quite ready this
year. Perhaps 1998 is it? You have got to be impressed with
the company this tiny company is getting. One cannot help but
think "buyout" considering the spare cash in this consortium.
Amati was scooped up earlier this year.

Haven't taken any position yet. Seems like the response is
good and staying strong. Will there be a pullback from this
35% jump? That's the question.

I'm going to look at the AWRE thread for clues.
