Thanks, Mephisto. Your orchids brighten my days!

You were talking about Clinton and Paula Jones, and said you didn't think he did it, but you weren't sure, as I recall. I'm not sure what happened with Paula Jones in that hotel room, if anything, either, and we may never know the truth, but I thought it was in really poor taste when it first became news, and Clinton used James Carville to play the 'class' card in Clinton's defense, by coming out in the press and saying something like "It's amazing what comes out when you drag a $100 bill through a trailer park." Tacky and below the belt!!!

Anyway, whatever happened, Billy is in big heap trouble now. Kenneth Starr has added the Paula Jones stuff to his investigation, because of allegations concerning a year-and-a-half affair with a staffer in the White House which started when she was twenty-one, an inconvenient tape in existence of her discussing the gory details with another federal employee who recorded them, and charges that Clinton and his friend Vernon Jordan urged the young woman to lie under oath in the Paula Jones investigation. Classic Clinton!!! I still think he would have been better off settling with Paula a long time ago. This looks like a very big mess, but Billy, having no shame or anything, usually slips out of trouble somehow. I wonder what's going through Hillary's mind at the moment!!

It sort of reminds me of the president in 'Wag the Dog'. The premise there is that the president has just had sex with an under-aged Firefly Scout in the Oval Office when her troop was on tour at the White House, ten days before the election. Hollywood types are quickly hired to produce and direct a phony war in Albania with a theme song, film clips and created heroes to distract the public long enough for him to be reelected.

When Clinton was first elected, he had a lot of support in the film industry. I wonder if that is sagging a little now, with all the scandals. Certainly that movie, produced by Robert de Niro, reminds people who see it of what is going on in Washington, and not in a flattering way.

'Primary Colors' is about to be released, also. It is the film version of the somewhat scathing book written anonymously by someone high up in the first campaign, about handling the "bimbo" eruptions and what it was like behind the scenes when he ran the first time. John Travolta plays Clinton, Emma Thompson plays his wife, and it is obvious from the trailer it is NOT a flattering portrait of a sitting president.
