Which brand of NAS do you use? Whatever I buy needs to have good management software and work well with Macs. I've read good things about Synology, save for that unfortunate cryptolocking virus awhile ago that targeted and infiltrated their software.

I plan to have a 5-bay NAS or better, with storage of at least 20-30TB. I have many Blu-ray movies I'd like to convert to MKV format, and they can be pretty large. I want to have it configured as RAID 5 or RAID 6 for both striping and redundancy.

I'm always leery about allowing external access to anything on my LAN. Not worth the risk to me, and I really don't have a need in that way regarding my media. Plenty to see via traditional streaming services like Netflix if I'm ever away and need it.

As for Plex, years ago I was at a friend's how and we watched something he had ripped straight from DVD as an ISO image. While the audio was fine, the video had a slight jutter to it. Made it annoying to watch. All other ISOs he had did the same thing. We played with all of the settings we could think of, but nothing worked. Had he converted it to an MP4 file instead, it likely would've been fine.

It's just little things like that I've read over the years that made people unhappy with Plex.
