I switched from DirecTV to DISH years ago.... it might have been to get the TiVo DVR or just a better deal but I can't see going back for one reason, the 30 second skip forward and 10 second skip backward buttons.
By contrast, my ancient TiVo box is still fast and even with the upgrades it remains that way. About a year ago or so they added a commercial skip feature. For recorded network shows, like, say, The Tonight Show, once you hit a commercial break, the TiVo will emit a little "ding" sound and you can just press a single button to skip all the commercials. It works surprisingly well and it's very accurate. For shows that don't have it, just fast forward as usual.
Those two features are far superior to holding down the FFWD button and hoping to get it just right....

Most shows like baseball and basketball have a fixed time between innings or timeouts. Hit the button 4 times when the last out is made and it comes back with the next inning pitcher ready to throw the first pitch. Same with Warriors basketball games on the local station. National Warriors games on TBS, TNT or ESPN are 6 pushes for 3 minutes.

Local ABC news is virtually unwatchable with so many local commercials and Disney product plugs without this.... if I make a mistake and miss something with an extra click, it is easy to go back with three pushes of the 10 second reverse button.

DISH also has a "hopper feature" that for some network shows automatically skips (hops over) the commercials if you watch a few days to a week later.

This code saves $100 for both of us.

I think that 30 second skip forward feature was a TiVo patent that Dish might have to pay for or they have some exemption to use... It opens up a lot of great content on cable networks like AMC, FX, TNT, etc. that are lousy with commercials.

It works so well I now only get premium content from Starz and Showtime when I can get 6 months specials at $5 per month.... my guess is Dish gives me those to keep me as you have to call or learn to use the online tool to find specials rather than let them renew automatically at full price. They lost HBO when I think HBO did not want to share fees thinking most of us would get content directly via streaming. It also allowed the arsewipes at T/HBO to go back on their word to me of $10/month forever as long as I didn't cancel. Since I have to pay full price for HBO, I'll wait for several shows I'm interested in seeing to fully spool up on the streaming service so I can pay for a month via Amazon Prime then binge watch.

HBO isn't 4K so it is not a good to watch as Amazon Prime shows that are really quite good and seem free if you paid for Prime to get quick delivery without having to order $35 worth of stuff.
