I had Dish Network back in the 90's mainly because they had a lot of foreign language channels available. But at the time I was living in an area of the PNW where very tall trees would grow and block my signal also I didn't like how rain interrupted signals so I ended up switching to Comcast for cable but had Frontier for Fios. I think Fios is the best system if you can get it.

I have had Tivo for about 6 years and really like it even with the added fees. I feel the extra fees are worth it. The main benefit for me is I can easily transfer any saved recording back and forth between my two DVRs to save or watch and more importantly I can move them to my desktop computer for saving to my NAS unit As far as I can tell no other service allows that? But I amy be wrong. I often save concerts, special sporting events etc. Most recent movies are restricted from saving. I am planning on upgrading my Tivo boxes in the near future but I am waiting to see how they move forward with their technology. I assume their future storage will be via the cloud vs having large 1-3 TB drives in your Tivo unit. But still waiting to see how that all plays out.

I also have had Slingbox for about 5 years but again use it mainly to watch local TV when I am out of the area. I can remember watching NFL football games from South America via slingbox.

Finally as mentioned in earlier post NAS with Plex rules!
