Dish now lets you save recordings on your devices so you can watch movies on a plane, etc. No restrictions I am aware of.

I also have several hard drives with DISH movies and shows (recorded with HBO, Starz or Showtime subscriptions) on them that I can watch directly from the HD or transfer to the DVR and then load on my devices. I think I paid a one time $40 fee for the ability to do this years ago. My guess is I could probably attach the HDs to my Google or OneDrive cloud storage plans and back the movies up there too for a very low cost... but I haven't bothered as I seldom go back and watch old movies since there is so much current, new content to watch. The movies can only be watched as long as I've paid for dish but I wonder if I took the time to convert them to watch on my devices... how would they know?

My guess is if I travel and wanted access, I could leave the HD plugged in and watch from my "Dish Anywhere" app that lets me view my DVR and its content from anywhere with decent WiFi. That runs on my laptop, Galaxy Tablet and Galaxy S8 phone.
