As I posted on the Computer Learning thread when SI Ron said he was going to get a curved computer monitor, they don't make sense to me.

I can see it might be reasonable or a computer since you sit relatively close to it, right in the center, and you're the only one to use it most of the time, but for a large TV, I can't imagine why it would be good thing.

A curved screen cuts way down on the viewing angles. I was overjoyed when the CRT was finally put to rest and we could all enjoy flat LCD screens, for both computer and TV viewing. A curved screen is like going backwards in time to me.

My favorite local cineplex has screens that are slightly curved, and it distorts text on the screen when it's near the bottom edges. Why? It's not necessary for any reason I can think of and actually makes the picture worse.

I think curved TVs were just a gimmick, and proved to be an unpopular one at that. That is why they are being dumped.
