Rapinoe Speaks Directly to Trump: 'Do Better'

Soccer star describes World Cup win as 'turning point'

"You need to do better—for everyone."
That was Megan Rapinoe's message to President Trump during a Tuesday interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper. Asked what she would say to the commander in chief, the US women's soccer co-captain looked into the camera and addressed Trump directly.
"Your message is excluding people. You're excluding me, you're excluding people that look like me, you're excluding people of color, you're excluding Americans that maybe support you,"
said Rapinoe.
"We need to have a reckoning with the message that you have," continued the World Cup champion, per USA Today. "Maybe America is great for a few people right now, but it's not great for enough Americans" and "you have an incredible responsibility as the chief of this country to take care of every single person."

While Rapinoe said
all of her teammates were "interested in going to Washington" on an invitation from Democratic lawmakers, she said there was no interest in visiting the White House to be "corrupted by this administration." "There are so many other people that I would rather talk to and have meaningful conversations that could really affect change in Washington,"
she said. Speaking of change, Rapinoe said this month's World Cup victory—including the chants of "Equal pay!" that followed—felt "like one of those iconic turning points in history." "To be able to sort of leverage this moment and talk about the things that we want to talk about and to celebrate like this with the leaders of our country is an incredible moment," she said. The question now is "how can we go to the next step to create a world that is equal and fair for everyone." ( This could be a start.)
