The apparent absence of direct, hard data that support's Rolf's plasma stream explanation is why I haven't gone any further than expecting the Zharkova scenario for the Sun.

As for the magnetosphere, its behavior may actually also be a response to the plasma stream activity.
No way to know if that's so that I know of though.

Rolf relies most on measurements of the Ulysses mission as evidence of the plasma stream's existence and its orientation to the Sun relative to the planetary orbital disc. (Entering at the north and exiting south)
How it could be known that the stream's resonant properties are cyclically entering a phase that only supports a lower energy flow...at this time...is beyond me.
He may have access to information that "we" don't or he hasn't gotten around to completely explaining that yet. He works kinda slowly ;-)

But...a GSM with a magnetic excursion should provide plenty to deal with for now.

There's still some time to try and nail down the trail Rolf is following.
