Probably the easier question is who loses? In short, it's "Auld Lang Syne" for ISDN, SDSL, and any hybrid technology under 1.5Mbps. And if the consortium gets its way with DMT, CAP players had better switch to Plan B real fast.

There'll be lots of winners. The telcos didn't want to sell modems and now they won't have to, at least not out of the gate. COMS and ROK and LU can take the customer prermise market and leave the central office to ALA, Siemens, NEC, CSCO, and whoever else does transport. TI will win at both ends because they'll supply the chips. So will ADI. Westell will win if they get their act together. Aware, too, though I don't know their business plan other than having sold their codes to Ascend, COMS, and a long list of others. Will they actually manufacture their own products? If they can do that, someone may just snap them up.

I don't doubt for a minute it's the big guys who'll win.

But that's just my take.

Cheers!

Pat
