I have been watching the outing of power in NYC. Our grid is really thin. It's good to see that they can come back this fast. I wonder just how thin it is. Hope we don't find out! I shake my head and wonder why people live in the Mississippi valley and get rescued every time it rains and floods.

I enjoy reading fictional history of the Roman empire from AD zero on. Same with English History from King Alfred on. Our civilization didn't really got going until we got into the 20th Century. All those centuries travel and communication was at five miles an hour.

I consider Newton and his publication of the Principe to be the anchor-point of history. It caused the industrial revolution. It took a few centuries to get our Civilization off the ground after that, but that was the key development.
