It sounds like we will be going from a maximum of 56,000 bits per second (3COM, former US Robotics) to something like 600,000 to maybe 1,500,000 bits per second. The upload speed (when you post something to SI or elsewhere) may be slower (I read in another article maybe 128,000 bits per second). Of course, to most of us, download speed is more important, as we bring down pictures, games and other very high data content files. Some of these files can be up into hundreds of kilobytes or more, so they can take a lot of seconds to download. The new protocol is SO much faster that pix, etc., should appear on our screens immediately after we point and click.
Another neat thing is that ADSL, or DSL will not tie up a phone line.
What is Intel's axe to grind? A lot of people have been saying "why do I need a super fast PC, like maybe a 266 or 300 or 333MHz PII, when I'm waiting for the web most of the time." Well, no more hangups with this new technology.
As far as what Intel will be selling, I don't know yet whether they will do a modem interface chip for the motherboard, or do an external modem or what. They may also contract someone else to do the modem. There will also be new software.
Moroccan food is something like Greek, or Turkish, not Indian. They make shiskebabs out of lamb, do stuff like falafel, use rice vs. potatoes. You sit on a cushion on the floor. I used to like Indian food until I started noticing an aftertaste of yogurt, which is an ingredient in a lot of their marinades. Maybe I'm partially lactose intolerant, but I didn't care for the aftertaste.
