I agree, cost is a major determining factor and could result in any new product displacing the Zip. This assumes of course, like you said, "It is fast enough, and has all the functionality." I would add that the OEM cost would need to not only match, but be significantly better than the Zip before the bulk of the boxmakers would be sold on making the change.

In the case of HiFD, I'll say it again, I don't believe they can reach this price point. They won't have the volume, the technology appears to be more complex, there are more components, and the cost of the Zip if and when HiFD is released is unknown but certainly will be lower than today's cost.

I agree with KE in not being overly concerned at a technology announcement, and to wait until there's a real product out there.
