Mark,
<< It has everything to do with the names of soldiers I see on a plaque every time I walk into a VFW Hall. >>
Mark, there are brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, lovers, and many others, on BOTH sides of any war, that suffer and grieve the loss of their loved ones. I doubt the pain "they" feel, is any less than that which we have to endure. There are some elements of the human condition common to all - the loss of a loved one is certainly one of them.
Some people carry despair and hate around for years, to their own detriment. I doubt those that died, would want the survivors to harbour such feelings for the rest of their lives. They died so that we could be free - not trapped within hatred/anger the rest of our lives. To do otherwise, IMVHO, makes their deaths seem somewhat futile.
Let's hope the world never knows such horrors again, and we can all move forward in peace, tranquility and fellowship with each other,no matter where we live.
Best to you,
MB
