It is irrelevant how much stock the average American owns. Joe6P is repulsed by higher taxes. He views taxes like this as scams and will vote against it. Think of the dominoe theory. In Joe's mind, if they could get away with a tax like this, driving up expenses on mutual funds and retirement plans, they can easily devise a tax scheme to rip him off too.
On another but similar note, you reek of entitlement syndrome . No one, including government, owes you anything. Plus, you reek of resentment, which is a cheap emotion. There are many multi-millionaires who are self-made who came from humble backgrounds. They think if they can make it, so can anyone. I do view universal healthcare as a human right. But you take that idea to government subsistence for lots of things that you don't deserve. Pray tell me why should I support your right to own a TV or anything else for that matter, unless you are disabled. This country only promises equal opportunity, not equal access to homes, cars, etc. I am willing to give you equal opportunity through a free college education. If you blow it or can't achieve, touch luck. |
