7/26/2019 Contest update
The temperature hit 108.7 F in Paris this week; meanwhile, matching last month as the hottest June ever for our planet, July is on track to set another global temperature high. It may be time to switch my biotechs for air conditioner stocks.
Hurt by the plunge in NTEC (held by 5 Contest portfolios), the Contest median lost ground for the week although both biotech indexes were up a bit. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 14.58% YTD (vs. up 17.60% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.70% YTD (vs. up 8.30% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 18.96% YTD (vs. up 18.61% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 25.54% YTD (vs. up 22.78% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio remained Contest leader with a 105.72% YTD gain. OHMS’ portfolio, up 71.02% YTD, was boosted into second place by the hot ACHN and BMAZ’s portfolio, up 65.39% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday's close, 31 of the 39 Contest portfolios were still in the green, while 26 were beating the NBI and 17 were beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 23.09% and a median YTD gain of just 4.73%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: PSTI did a 1-10 reverse split.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy the final July weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
