By accident or design, the US "student loans for everyone" program has been a disaster. It has reduced the affordability of college, increased the number of students needing loans, decreased the value of having a diploma, increased the number of "fraudulent" schools/programs in existence, and enticed a bunch of kids into saddling themselves with enormous debt. It has been on an unsustainable, crazy death spiral trajectory from the get go. The people responsible for coming up with and implementing the program should be tarred and feathered.

Not to mention that many of the blue collar trades are short on good people now because so many got sucked into false promises of being able to achieve the white collar dream...
