I suppose there are some left leaning reasons to go to war, but I agree that most wars (like Vietnam) are not fought to the benefit of the disadvantaged. On the contrary, they are most times the hardest hit by wars (poor and alive before and poor and dead after). And, of course, military spending in general is in direct competition with enabling funding social programs.

That being said, I was surprised to learn about Nixon's support for those two liberal policies (minimum wage and universal health care).
