CDN: Potential Gold stocks for this Canadian Fantasy Portfolio

First of all I would like to thank Bulldozer and Kimberly for their recommendations on my posts so far. It means a lot to me... it means I am not talking to the wall :)

Full disclosure.... The following stocks are held in my real tax free portfolios. I have held them for about a week now and all are in the black.

they are:

Kirkland Lake Gold [KL:TSX]

Look at this gorgeous 5 year chart

This is the best example of a stock that started somewhere around $1 and now is a strong player after 5 years.

I knew of this stock 5 years ago but ignored it until late June this year where I bought in at about $56.00/share. It pulled back from $60 but is climbing back up.

One thing that encouraged me (aside from its fundamentals) what how the stock price rose in a period when Gold was not exactly flavour of the month. A stock whose price rises in relative bad times is a "best of breed" in my books.

Here is a current chart

Three days ago there was a dramatic drop in the price of Gold (I think the US Fed had something to do with it). The share price of all gold stocks took a plunge.

TIP: When dealing with companies that are single commodity stocks...beware of what is going on with that commodity.

We are in consolidation right now. Except for the plunge and that recovery, the stock is acting normally.... gravitating to the 20daySMA.

Is it a buy right now??? I would say now.... it is a watch but not a sell. You only know from that 5 year chart that this stock rises in adversity.

For our fantasy portfolio it is too expensive for the amount of money that we have to spend. So for that reason and that alone...I would not place it in this portfolio. (I like to invest in 1000 shares)

But in your real portfolio's you could do a lot worse if you added this stock... as I have done in mine.

The other three stocks in my portfolios are

Argonaut Gold Ltd [TSX:AR] @ $2.47/share
Centerra Gold Inc. [TSX:CG] @ $10.82/share
Sandstorm Gold LTD [TSX:SSL] @ $8.22/share

We shall discuss these in the the next posts.

If you have any gold stocks to suggest Please post their tickers and I will look at them... make sure they are Canadian stocks for this sub-thread
