Sorry I had to step away before I could finish that thought... But I was going to finish with that the US flinging their doors wide open to the world, would be one of the greatest liberal, "WWJD", moments in history assuming the wealth released by the act went to the people in most need around the word. Of course, the flip side, would be a decrease in the standard of living in the US to some lower balance point where people no longer wanted to immigrate here because they could live similarly in their home countries. The US lower classes stand no chance in "competing" with the world's poor and it would take a huge mental shift before they could/would except that kind of standard of living. In other words, IMHO, from an ethical, world view, standpoint flinging the doors open to the world is the RIGHT (most liberal minded) thing to do. But before we do we better prepare for the consequences...
