Justin: What's the main constraint for potential BTRK global service ? Worldwide frequency approvals ? A few other thoughts on the BTRK global issue: Heard that Omnitraks may eventually transition to utilization of Globalstar LEO satellites; This could in principle be considered for BTRK as well, but there are some inherent limitations which probably still wouldn't make it a totally global LEO based capability : One limitation of Globalstar is the need to always have a Gateway site supporting the bird in use; This can be a problem when the user is out in the middle of the ocean where little or no other land-based subscribers exist, thus no local gateway constructed in the region; However, given the substantial number of Globalstar gateways planned ( on the order of 60 + ) BTRK probably could still offer substantial coverage for ocean areas which fall within the normal coverage for those planned landbased gateway sites; Thus some mix of GEO and LEO birds for BTRK might be feasible in the future, but subscriber hardware may become more costly if you have to provide for different frequencies, etc. Stealthy
