So what exactly does Aware make?

I spoke with an Aware employee at Boardwatch's ISPCon in San Francisco in August '97 and he said that they make the client side devices that allow the end user to connect to DSL lines. They don't make a central site piece of equipment (like the 3Com Total COntrol Hub or the Ascend Max), but he said they may in the future. So, as a client side device maker, they can't succeed alone - their device needs another thing (the central-side/ISP device) to connect to.

Many central side device makers (ASND, COMS, etc.) have liscensed Aware's technology. I guess that means they are going to make their devices (the 3Com TCHub or the Ascend MAX) able to receive Aware's signal. (??). I guess this is what that means, but if they are able to receive Aware's DMT ADSL signal, can they also use the technology for that signal in their client (modem) side devices?

I think Aware's only chance for survival is to be acquired by 3Com or Ascend as that companies' client side device maker. Otherwise, how can Aware, with no central site (ISP, telco) presence, make its products workable?

My opinion only - but the conclusion - sell your Aware on its current strength.

MSFT, CPQ, INTC fans - my question for you - to what device in the ISP/telco office is the consumer going to connect to??????
