PRESS RELEASE
EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1998--U.S. Wireless Data Inc.(OTC BB:USWDA) announced today that the Official Concessionaire for the San Diego Super Bowl Host Committee, N&D Sports ("N & D"), is now utilizing the U.S. Wireless Data ("USWD") TRANZ(TM) Enabler wireless technology to process all credit card transactions at its 35 vendor locations throughout San Diego, sight of Sunday's Super Bowl XXXII. N & D is a licensed distributor of official Super Bowl Products. The company expects more than 50% of the sales of its Super Bowl merchandise will be purchased using a credit card. N & D Sports, based in Hamden, Conn., has been established for 20 years and is a wholesaler/retailer of special event merchandise. N & D is a major vendor at such events as the Super Bowl, the NCAA's Basketball Final Four, Major League Baseball's All Star Game and World Series, the Stanley Cup Finals, the NBA Finals and the Olympic Games. The company plans on utilizing the U.S. Wireless Data ("USWD") TRANZ(TM) Enabler wireless technology at many of the future events it services. Commenting on the decision to adopt U.S. Wireless Data's technology, N & D President, David D'Ambriosia stated, "This will be our first use of wireless technology after 20 years in business. The U.S. Wireless Data Tranz Enabler greatly speeds up the credit card transaction time thereby increasing our sales rates and decreasing customer lines. "It also saves us the extra costs, time and logistical nightmare of procuring land telephones lines at our vendor locations. We anticipate the use of the TRANZ Enabler becoming a mainstay of our transactions processing infrastructure at many the future events we service." USWDA's proprietary enabling technology, TRANZ(TM) Enabler, converts a merchant's existing dial-up TRANZ VeriFone credit-card terminal into a high-speed wireless terminal. It provides merchants with a faster and more cost efficient way to transact business. The wireless transaction takes 3 to 5 seconds verses 11 to 20 seconds with a dial-up service. Going wireless means the merchant no longer needs a dedicated or shared telephone line to carry transaction traffic, thereby eliminating delays, busy signals and the cost to install or pay for monthly telephone service. U.S. Wireless Data Inc. has developed, tested and is now delivering compelling new proprietary products, programs and standards to the transaction processing and credit card industry which utilize Cellular Digital Packet Data ("CDPD") wireless networks. USWDA delivers the fastest and most cost-effective transaction processing solution to retail merchants in the United States today -- wired or wireless. USWDA will generate recurring revenue from every transaction processed by merchants who utilize the Company's CDPD wireless technology. The Company's strategy will be to deploy its technology through marketing and partnership agreements with major cellular phone companies, regional and community banks, select ISO's and its own sales force. |
