There are so many other issues in addition to earnings. The technicals are extremely high, the Asian Flu is up again a bit, future quarter warnings, Saddam's, Clintons affairs, commodity prices, interest rates etc.
I feel many will feel the same as you and for a short time the market will only drop a little, but when they do not see buying coming in, some may panic and it should fall hard one day in this downtrend. I am not saying that we will be setting new lows, which I do not feel will happen, but I could see that the DOW could easily test 7550.
