"So we are dithering on AI and meanwhile our greatest brains in AI at Google are helping China " We are dithering in lots of places, and China is filling the void. Imagine Google helping us, as part of our AI Dominance Consortium. Now imagine Trump changing the name to the space force, kicking out google, kicking out the AI, and making plans to go to Mars using coal-powered rockets. We may lose energy, AI, and the entire belt and road to China, but, dammit, we will put Matt Damon on Mars before anybody else steps foot on the Moon. "Google is helping them dominate the US. " Cut the crap. The US is helping them dominate the US by not competing. "Why are they doing that" Free market capitalism. "and why is our government not doing anything to stop Google from helping China?" Our government believes in doing away with regulations in order to let the free market work its magic.
